How to Take Different Cosplay Photos?

In cosplay shooting, it is easy to have a problem. That is, don't know what you want to shoot, and what is suitable for shooting. The communication between the photographer and the photographed is also inadequate. The pictures are likely to be messy. So according to the final feeling of the work (not the shooting technique and type), we should first understand the type of cosplay's graphic works. They can be basically divided into six kinds. Next, we will talk about the characteristics, shooting points and mistakes of each cos.

How to Take Different Cosplay Photos?

1. Realistic Cos

(1) Characteristics

This kind of cos is basically similar to the daily photo shoot. The characters have no obvious emotional changes. It basically only shows a state of the characters, and the scene is relatively single. It can be simply understood as the shooting of the character in a certain scene at a specific time.

(2) Shooting Focus

It mainly shows the conditions of cos itself (such as facial features, body shape or emotional performance), most of which use fixed focus.

(3) Later Focus

The main thing is to make the skin look and polish carefully and exquisitely. The color matching is based on good-looking, and the colors are unified.

(4) Easy Mistakes

Too many scene changes, not delicate makeup. The mood difference before and after is big, and the movement is incoherent. When shooting in the interior, it's easy to have inconsistent movements before and after. For example, the first one lies on the ground, and the second one switches to combat special effects, which makes it messy.

2. Daily Cos

(1) Characteristics

It mainly shows the daily life segment of character setting, mainly life, play, campus, dating, etc. Generally, people can find characters similar to the original scene. For example, ancient oriental settings, pastoral roles and so on.

(2) Shooting Focus

It mainly refers to the famous scenes of the original works, life fragments or character relationships that represent the character.

(3) Later Focus

Generally, the bug in the scene needs to be decorated, and the color is close to the original scene. It can assist small special effects, such as combat light and shadow or some special but difficult scene items, animals, etc.

(4) Easy Mistakes

The character needs to interact with the scene, and the action and expression of the character need to match the identity and emotion of the character in the scene. For example, a royal or noble character should not lie on the floor of the courtyard or corridor, or want to take off clothes and clap in public.

3. Traveling Cos

(1) Characteristics

Generally, natural scenery and famous scenic spots are taken as the shooting scenes to show the state of the character's sightseeing, walking, feeling nature and cultivation in a scene where the original works do not exist or the original works do not mainly exist. The general scene is grand and beautiful, such as forest, wilderness, garden, etc.

(2) Shooting Focus

Determine the emotional and background settings of the character in the scene and choose the time for shooting. The scene is particularly grand, and the movement is generally inclined to stretch, natural expression, relaxation, etc. Generally, the role state belongs to the true state.

(3) Later Focus

In many cases, it is not necessary to change the color of the original film too much, just to retain and contrast the features and aesthetic feeling of the scenery itself. The color is natural but has impact, and the visual effect is strong. Don't be too fancy. Refer to the feeling of movies and documentaries more.

(4) Easy Mistakes

It also needs to pay attention to the role needs and landscape interaction.  The role should pay attention to keep the same emotions before and after(except for special roles).

4. Poster Cos

(1) Characteristics

It has strong visual impact. Each picture has a separate feeling and action, showing the different status of the character. Most of them are light setting semi synthesis or late total synthesis. It is suitable for roles that are difficult to find scenes in a three-dimensional society. For example, the characters under the European mythology and magic system, the characters whose clothing and props can't move independently, or the characters who don't live on the earth at all.

(2) Shooting Focus

Generally shoot the character's signboard actions and create scenes close to the original. Pay attention to the communication between the front and back periods. Constantly confirm whether the original film meets the needs of the later period in the shooting, and take more photos of different shapes of hair, clothes and props for later selection.

(3) Later Focus

Mainly focus on the synthesis of background and special effects. The difficulty of synthesis is to deal with the relationship between perspective, light and shadow and characters. In the early stage, it is better to communicate with the later stage, so as to achieve the consistent thinking in the early and later stages.

(4) Easy Mistakes

Pay attention to the decomposition of the character's actions, the completeness and clarity of each character, clothing and props, and the parts that need to be synthesized for the supplementary shooting. Don't be too dark or too exposed, without too much light.

5. Monologue Cos

(1) Characteristics

It has a strong visual impact and usually takes the cosplay's psychological activities as the basis for shooting. Assist other characters or props. It is suitable for the characters with more inner drama and drama conflicts. It's usually a role with simple costumes and make-up props. Sometimes even deliberately simplify the role of clothing to express emotions.

(2) Shooting Focus

Generally, it focuses on the abstract scenes and post-processing that have a strong sense of art and do not exist in the three-dimensional simulated spiritual world. The subjects usually use exaggerated or rigid body movements and facial expressions. Common auxiliary props include piles (or later copy and paste) of all kinds of cloth, all kinds of color powder, tomato sauce and other items with bright colors or black and white gray.

(3) Later Focus

In general, coser is the best person to plan such cosplay role, and complete the later stage of shooting and handover according to the script. Later stage and typesetting need to have a certain interpretation of the role, to ensure the basic emotional coherence and fluent monologue.

(4) Easy Mistakes

This kind of shooting will assist in the continuous psychological activities of the characters. Pay attention to whether the emotional segments planned by coser are completed in the shooting. Pay attention to whether the expression of coser is in place and ensure the facial details and body movement effect without losing aesthetic feeling.

6. Story Cos

It shows part of the classic plot of the performance role, or the growth and change of the simplified performance role. There are coherent causes and consequences, obvious dramatic conflicts, changes in timelines, scenes, costumes and props. It is suitable for characters with brilliant plot and good scene.

(2) Shooting Focus

The difficulty is to connect the interaction and emotion between different cosplay roles in different scenes and at different times, and pay attention to the picture coherence. The emotional action and expression should be natural and the composition of the scene should be stable. Sufficient preparation is needed in the early stage and do a good job in storytelling script, so as to avoid the mistakes of costumes and make-up props.

(3) Later Focus

Try to keep the color close to the original or film and television works to ensure that the style of the film is unified and the picture is smooth.

(4) Easy Mistakes

Due to various factors during shooting, it is difficult to complete all the planning and sub screening of the plot cos. It is necessary to plan the shooting route, time for changing clothes and props, etc, and strive to complete more than 80% of the storyboard to ensure the integrity of the final work.

The above six cosplay photo type can be compatible with each other, but some of them are not very compatible. For example, the traveling type is close to the daily type, but we should avoid too many close-ups of the realistic type, and forget the blending of human and landscape. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of each type of cosplay photos.
